Weather Guides

  • The Murrieta Valley Unified School District (MVUSD) is dedicated to protecting the health and well-being of our students, families, and staff. We understand the importance of balancing educational continuity with health and safety, particularly during periods of poor air quality such as fires, pollution or heat.

To ensure informed decisions, we actively monitor local air conditions using the Air Quality Index (AQI) — a tool that measures pollution levels and their potential impact on health. We rely on trusted resources such as AirNow, Perry Weather and guidance from local health authorities to stay up to date on current conditions.

By closely tracking the AQI, we can take appropriate steps to protect our school community, such as modifying outdoor activities, adjusting schedules, or providing additional support as needed. Our commitment is to keep families informed and students safe while maintaining a positive learning environment.

    Outdoor Activity- WBGT Readings

Perry Weather Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) readings listed in the 4-widgets and chart below are NOT basic air temperatures.  WBGT readings are calculated using a WBGT device that considers factors like humidity, solar radiation, and wind speed to provide a more accurate assessment of heat stress.

    Directions:

    1. Identify the Perry Weather WBGT reading chart that corresponds to the school closest to your child's or students' school or activity:

    • Dorothy McElhinney Middle School
    • Murrieta Valley High School
    • Murrieta Mesa High School
    • Vista Murrieta High School

    2. Find appropriate actions allowed per WBGT reading in the Murrieta Valley USD Outdoor Activity Guideline chart.

    3. Schools must react appropriately within 30 minutes.

  • Air Quality Index (AQI):

Murrieta Valley USD follows the recommendations outlined by the California Department of Education.

    • Good to Moderate AQI (0-100): Regular school routines will continue, including outdoor recess, lunch, and P.E.

    • Orange Level AQI (101-150): Classroom doors and windows may be closed. Outdoor options during lunch and recess will be provided, with reminders to reduce physical exertion for sensitive individuals.

    • Red Level AQI (151-200): Sensitive students should remain indoors, while others are advised to avoid vigorous outdoor activities. We may cancel or modify after-school outdoor activities.

    • Purple Level AQI (201+): Implement Shelter-in-Place Protocol, allowing movement inside buildings while canceling outdoor activities. Staff will seal windows and shut down ventilation systems to prevent outside air exposure. School closure may be considered based on conditions.

    • Maroon Level AQI (301-400): Emergency conditions expected. All outdoor activities will be canceled.
